Middot/Character Development
Just like we teach children math, Chumash and English, so too must character education be a core component of their curriculum! The elementary grades have a program we call E.M.E.T which stands for Excellent Middot Every Time. The essence of the program is teach children about the behaviors we hope to cultivate and then “catch them in the act.” These students are publicly praised and rewarded for their admirable behavior is variety of categories and this happens on a daily basis in our school. The Middle School has developed a program we call K.A.R.E. which stands for Kindness Always, Respect and Responsibility Everywhere. This developmentally appropriate program helps our students learn about a wide array of topics including compassion, respect, gratitude, self-esteem, leadership, relationships, integrity, personal safety and so much more. Students gather with their teachers and their “KARE circles” every other week to explore these crucial topics.
